zipfizz energy drink review
February 21, 2008 by Cash
I heart stimulation.
‘Well rested from a good night’s sleep’? Booooring. I’m talking about being well rested AND all hopped up besides. To this end, I try plenty of energy drinks. Most include mega doses of caffeine, guarna, B12, and other herbal weirdness in various combinations. Most also taste awful, can end with a huge crash, or not work at all. Very few offer anything beyond the buzz, which is why I have to say I’m quite impressed with ‘Zipfizz’, a strange new energy drink mixer.
Zipfizz bills itself as
the healthy alternative to energy and sports drinks
They’re not foolin about the ‘healthy’ part. In addition to a slew of vitamins (including 833% of your daily recommended C and 41667% of your B12) it also features Alpha Lipoic Acid (one of the most formidable antioxidents in existence, see my rave here) and Grape seed extract (great for your liver amongst other things).
Zipfizz is a powder that comes in a small, plastic test tube-like container. It’s intended to be mixed with water. At 10 calories and with no sugar, it won’t ruin your diet.
I first tried “Pink Lemonade” Zipfizz on the bus, carefully pouring every last spec into my water bottle. After shaking vigorously I popped the cap and took a deep swig. It was TART but delicious. I continued sipping and enjoying for about 10 minutes, when I noticed it. A warm, buzzing energized feeling brewing in my head. It lasted through most of the morning, and kept me away from the corporate coffee pot for several hours.
Although the uber-girlie, pastel pink packaging made me feel like I’d pilfered a Strawberry Shortcake Chemistry Set, the effects were well worth it.
I look forward to trying it before, or in, the gym.

OH MAN… I’d thought for sure you guys had known about the fizz… My buddy Brian is one of the sales guys in Detroit and it’s thanks to him that IPM Radio is kept fizzing on weekends for a couple years now.
The liquidshots are crap, much like drnking warm spit. Avoid using it straight. HOWEVER, the berry liquid shots mixed with pear vodka - now youre talking.
Orange, which is a new flavor of the powder is quite good, not as tart as the others and not as droopy as berry (the white tubes). And I’m happy to report also that the Immune fizz line is a very good tasting and well working competitor to products like airborn.
one word of caution - dont do more than 4 servings at any given time. The Niacin / B6 content will do bad things to your brain in large quantities. (at high concentrations it’s a nerve toxin)
Here’s a photo of IPM DJ “Angry Rohn” illustrating proper enjoyment of the fizz.

OK so maybe we’re junkies. It’s ok. it’s GOOD for us. (I do a tube a day, at least.)

Warning: “833% of your daily recommended C”
Too much Vit C can cause gastrointestinal disturbances(ie Fiber One bar type issues)…the Institute of Medicine has recommended doses between 1-4gm/day…the RDA for Vitamin C is around 75-90mg/day putting one about 3gm above the recommended max of 4gms if they drink just one zipfizz.
Thanks for the warning on servings and the awesome pic Bob!
Havent had any Fiber one type issues from it, thankfully… however I also drink a good 2-4 liters of water over the course of the day no matter whats goin on, so I probably rinse out 90% of the content of the fizz anyway.
I forgot to mention earlier… there may have been an incident involving using zipfizz in a cupcake recipe…. there may also have been circumstances of fizz mixed with coffee… fizz mmixed with mountain dew…. or shaking up a big sample container and opening the lid really fast to eat the “smoke” released.

okay now that almost made me snort.
“opening the lid really fast to eat the “smoke” released”.
makes me think of the southpark episode ‘guitar queero’ and chasing the dragon in that heroin hero game.
yeah… heh… It’s pretty much like that. In Soviet Detroit, you do not do the ZipFizz; The ZipFizz does YOU.
