Youtube To Go (Downloading Youtube Videos)
March 9, 2007 by Greg

Instead of my weekly feature on what’s hot in online video, I’m going to share a tip I discovered last night. I was watching a few movies that Cash had sent me when my dodgy internet kept flaking out on me. Frustrated by the intermittent pauses in my videos, I decided to find away to download this content.
A quick google search navigated me to vixy.
This service allows you convert a Flash Video / FLV file (Youtube’s movie, etc) to MPEG4 (AVI/MOV/MP4/MP3/3GP) file online. It is using a compressed domain transcoder technology (outline in Japanese). It converts FLV to MPEG4 faster and less lossy than a typical transcoder.
It’s easy to use. Simply paste the url of the youtube video in the box, select your format, submit, and within a few minutes of conversion your video is downloading to your computer. No more caching and preloading and it goes on my portable player for the morning bus ride. Note: you can also convert the videos to mp3 for those with just portable audio players.

That rawks. Now I just need to get a portable video player..
Portable video player/iPod makers: Start sending those samples. Great review, er um, I mean, completely objective review, guaranteed
