I’ve never been a big believer in Valentine’s day as a ‘real’ holiday, and even if I was, it’s unlikely I’d spend much money on it.  The most romantic things in the world are always home brewed.  Naturally, ’society’ disagrees with me, and most men this year will shell out around $164 for the ‘big day’.  Losers.

a dozen red roses…pink cell phones or iPods…pajamas with hearts…red, lacy lingerie…satin sheets…diamonds, pink sapphires and rubies…an expensive candlelight dinner…

The list of cliché Valentine’s Day gifts goes on and on, with most of the gifts catering to women and their idea of what a romantic Valentine’s Day should include. (Men spend an average of $163.37 on gifts and cards, compared to an average of $84.72 spent by women.

I would make a dinner at home, but this zoo kitchen lacks a certain mood…

    Couple of options and thoughts…
-Why do you have to celebrate your love or crush only on one random day in February? Shouldn’t you do that on a regular basis, telling them that you love them?
-I prefer the homemade variety that took thought and a little effort but not much money. Cook dinner, a homemade cheesecake, card made on the computer, a mixed tape and a movie. Not that hard is it?
-If you really want the V-Day experience but at a cheaper price… Tell you honey that you will celebrate on a Saturday night, when you both are off of work. When Valentines Day lands on a weekday, like today is a Thursday, you go to the store the following day and buy candy, flowers, balloons and cards all at a 50% markdown. Same stuff, half the price. Done and done

And Greg, there is nothing sexier than a lemur barking in the background…. Talk about your jungle lovin’!
