Two tips for Shaving

Shave with the grain and rinse with hot water. The straight dope responded to two reader submitted questions with the aforementioned answers. However back when I was shaving (now I maintain a constant stuble), going with the grain always left me with a piss poor shave.
Straight dope had an answer for that too…
Professional barbers, by the way, usually first shave with the grain, and then re-shave going sideways. I asked Cecil if there was enough money in the Straight Dope Research & Entertainment Fund for me to go to a barber so I could report back firsthand, but no dice.
Sideways? Sounds like the best of both worlds to me. Almost worth shaving again to try it out. Almost. Read the full article here.

I have to admit that shaving with the grain has at once reduced the quality of my shave (somewhat) but also increased the COMFORT of my shave quite a bit.
I’m anxious to try the second swoop sideways. Sounds like a winner.
Hot water is a must, as discussed in Glenn’s earlier wet shaving piece.
