Traveling With Electronics

I’m currently checking off a few last items to prepare for a three week trip to Argentina.  One question I’ve been wondering about it is how I’m going to charge my laptop and my cell phone while I’m down there.  Thankfully, the solution is quite easy.

First, the absolute basics of home electricity.  I’ll spare you the high school course in alternating current and just inform you that US power is 110 volts, 60 hertz.  Most other places in the world are going to vary.  Using the handy guide, Electricity Around the World, I can see that Argentina operates at 220 volts, 50 hertz.

Luckily, most electronic devices are ready for travel.  Flipping over the power supplies for my laptop and my phone, I’m informed that both chargers will operate between 100 and 240 volts and accept alternations between 50 and 60 hertz.  All that I need is to make the sure I have plugs to fit in the outlets.  Using the same guide as before, I can see what style of outlets are used in the destination country.  For Argentina, I may encounter two styles of outlets.

I’ve found a few products online that will work well for me.  However, the Travel Plug Adapter by Kensington offered a convenient pdf to verify the countries on their product detail page.  After few clicks in Amazon and a few short days my adapter will be here and I have one more item completed on my trip check list.
