One day a package filled with the full fragrance line from Tommy Bahama made it to Urban Monarch’s door step. Our first inclination was to inspect and review each individually but then we came up with a rather ingenious method of product reviews. We would test out the fragrances on the desired audience and subsequently meet girls.

First, the goods….

  • Tommy Bahama Set Sail - St Barts
This is a limited edition cologne that we wrote about earlier here. Notes of tequila, vanilla, and palm wood.
  • Tommy Bahama Very Cool
This is a lighter fragrance released last year. Notes of mint mojito, mandarin, and ginger.
  • Tommy Bahama Signature
This is the debut fragrance from the upscale resort clothing maker. Notes of guaiac wood, patchouli, and corriander.

On first smell, I found the signature fragance to be a very warm and musky scent, very cool to be light and sweet, and set sail to be soft and herbal. I would’ve picked set sail and very cool as my two favorites, but, like most things, it’s better to have a lovely lady’s opinion.

For a few weeks Cash and I put on two fragrances, one on each arm, before going out. We went to the lounges, chatted with the girls, and then asked which they preferred. A few would have stray opinions, but after a couple nights, there was an easily recognizable pattern, and a new girlfriend or two in tow.

The girls liked set sail the best on me, and very cool the best on Cash. Much to my own dismay, they liked very cool the very least on me when compared to the other two fragrances. So, it goes to show, when fragrance shopping, get a sample, or in the very least, bring a lady with you to smell it when combined with your body chemistry.
