The Science of Sleep is a new independent french film written and directed by Michel Gondry.

According to movies.com

Stephane (Gael Garcia Bernal) returns to his childhood home with the promise of a job as a copy setter. Wildly creative, his dream life constantly threatens to take over his waking world. Stephane meets and falls in love with his neighbor, Stephanie (Charlotte Gainsbourg), whose imagination is just as powerful as his own. As their relationship blossoms, the line between reality and dreaming blurs.

If you’re not hip to Gondry, he wrote and directed eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. His background is in musical videos for cult acts like massive attack, bjork, chemical brothers, and more. He is continually involved in a movie production triangle with screen writer Charlie Kaufman and director Spike Jonze. I recommend throwing all of their movies into your netflix queue.

It is scheduled to be released state side towards the end of September. Till then, check out the trailer.

The plotline seems vaguely remniscent of Mirror Mask, which was gorgeous beyond words. Definitely another one for everyone’s Netflix queues..

In a fantasyland of opposing kingdoms, a 15-year old girl must find the fabled MIRRORMASK in order to save the kingdom and get home

Sounds like unicorns and castles to me…

Eternal Sunshine was great movie, very moving for me. Carrey did a great job and didn’t overact like he tends to do.
