style: clothes that fit - finding smaller sizes
May 4, 2007 by Cash
I have an in-depth feature on tailoring in the works, but for now I came across a quick blurb about finding fitted clothes if you’re not ‘athletic’ (or ‘overweight’ for that matter).
Susan Huston, writer of the “Ask a Fashionista” column in the North Texas’ Star Telegram was recently asked about shopping tips for men who wear smaller sizes.
A:Look for pieces described as “European cut” or “slim fit.” Express stores and Banana Republic carry slim-fitting pants and shirts.
At Dillard’s and Macy’s, look at the “Collections,” brands like INC, Polo and Calvin Klein, which have a more athletic fit. Also, Macy’s carries slim-fit Levis. In its suit department, look for the Alfani and Jones New York brands, which are cut leaner.
A man looking for a slimmer fit should choose a three-button suit because it is cut slimmer and is more fitted. A shorter man should avoid having cuffs on his pant leg, as that cuff makes the leg look shorter.
From my own experience, Hugo Boss and Armani Exchange seem to offer decent off the shelf shirts that are better suited to a more svelte frame.
Readers; do you have any experience finding more form fitting clothes? Comment away.

I bought a Hugo Boss slim fit shirt that fits pretty well. Ben Sherman also fits me well.
J. Crew fitted shirts are good for everyday - they’re cheap and well fitted for a thinner type.
Armani Exchange polo’s seem to fit best for me, and Express is a close second. H&M Definitely has smaller, better fitting sizes for their collection.
