Start Using Google Reader

My usual morning ritual is to open up two websites, gmail and google reader. Everyone (even my mom) is using email, but very few are consciously using RSS aggregators like google reader. I am so delighted with my experience of using an aggregator, I’m going to tell you about one way I use mine and provide you with a couple links to help you get started.

Some of my favorite feeds are my ‘consumer’ feeds. I have one setup for slickdeals, a website that highlights the best deals on the net. I’ve bought laptops for $500, digital cameras for $250, as well as deep discounts on items like cliff bars, wine glasses, and more. However, with good deals on the net, you’ve got to act fast or you miss out. RSS makes regularly checking the deals easy.

The other consumption feed I regularly check is my feed for the latest vegan wares at Nordstrom. As soon as my feed lights up, I’m excited to see what new shoes are available. I’ve already got a pair of onitsuka tigers waiting in the queue for the next shoe order.

For a background, Cash earlier posted a link about what RSS is. To get started with google reader, check out google’s help. For those more visually inclined, Andy Wibbel’s has a nice flash walk through to get started. Oh, and Urban Monarch has an RSS feed too.
