Sex Music and The Art of the Sex Playlist
October 19, 2006 by Greg

I have thousands of mp3s spread across multiple genres lying dormant on my computers hard drive. Given my musical tastes, a lot of my music is highly sexual, however, ask me in the heat of the moment to put on a selection of seductive music, and the best I could come up with would be a massive attack album played all the way through.
[update: I really have to give Cash credit for turning me on to this playlist idea. He is the master of the home jukebox.]
This is where the sex play list comes in. In 15 minutes I got started with a simple one. I thought of the most seductive tracks on my computer and 3 or 4 came quickly to mind. Then, glancing through my music directory, I remembered another 3 or 4. Adding these tracks to a playlist, aptly titled ‘Sex’, armed me with 40 minutes of the most mood altering music in my library. As I’m listening to music in the future and, ahem, conducting research, I’ll tweak the list.
When creating a sex playlist, keep the goal in mind. This list isn’t a compilation of your favorite songs. It’s music for an experience, an environment, and a soundtrack. Taking in to account your partner, the type of music is entirely subjective. Be it jazz or pop, just make sure both parties will find it intriguing.
For me, the sex list is about downtempo electronica and trip hop. This music creates an aura of mystery with just a hint of aggression. It’s got to be deep, it’s got to be dark, and it’s got be ravaging; expressive of my sexuality.
If you need help with the technical aspect of creating a playlist, here are two tutorials:
Homework: If you don’t have one, create your own sex playlist. If your computer isn’t hooked up to play music in the bedroom, burn it to a CD.

what about tricky - overcome? i think that’s a very sexy song.
Oh man.. totally scooped on this post!
Aiight then, I’ll add three words> Dead Can Dance
Raquel,
You wait for tomorrow! That’s sexy songs to put in your play list day…
Cash,
Scoooooop!
What I have found handy is if I want to bang in the living room, my Xobx 360 connects to my laptop in the office and I can stream winamp playlists over my network and into the home theatre stereo. You gotta have the dolby 5.1 with a 12 inch sub for that kind of activity..
What about that Oakenfold song with Brittany Murphy.. the hook is “you turn me on”. I forget the title… Faster Kill Pussycat… thats it
Tomorrow I’ll have to do one on how to read a wine label.
Yo J,
That is definitely cash’s track, he loves that shit!
Cash,
Get on it!
Massive Attack as well as Delirium are a few of my faves!
Who could forget Portishead?
ooooo portishead…..
Portishead for the real. Air’s “Moon Safari” and “Talkie Walkie” are in my SexyBack playlist. Plus a lot of Ministry of Sound’s Chillout sessions.
Good call on Tricky’s Overcome Raquel!

Great pic carsten.. I know for a fact Greg and I have that in our collections.
Something about us - Daft Punk.. Check that out. Probably one of the best I’ve ever heard for that
Joe- great choice. That particular cut actually found its way onto my summer electronica mix, which I’ll likely post the playlist of soon.
Murder By Death - Fuego!
