serving sizes are total bullsh1t

I’ve been off the Body For Life bandwagon for awhile now, mainly due to laziness. Fortunately, my 5-6 miles worth of daily walking and high metabolism let me indulge in all manner of ilicit foods with minimal consequences. (At least visibly speaking)
Still, having learned thru BFL and my uber-fit sister (she’s a personal trainer) to note ‘Serving Size’ on pre-packaged goods, I’m constantly amazed at what food makers get away with.
Perfect case in point; the Snickers King Size candy bar.
This is a quasi-staple in my work week diet, especially when a walk to the vending machine seems more appealing than a trek across campus to the cafeteria.
This morning I decided to peek at the nutritional information.
Calories: 170
Fat Calories: 70
Total Fat: 8 grams
Sat Fat: 3 grams
Not great by any means, but not depressing either.
Well, at least not until I notice a ’serving’ is ONE THIRD OF A CANDY BAR.
Since I’ve never eaten a 1/3 of a candy bar, saving the rest for later, here’s the REAL nutrional information:
Calories: 510
Fat Calories: 210
Total Fat: 24 grams
Sat Fat: 9 grams
Now THAT my friends, is depressing.
Keep it in mind the next time you’re ready to blast off to “Peanutopolis”.

If you add an extra 150 calories to your diet every day you will gain 15 pounds in a year. Cut back a 150 a day for a year, lose 15 lbs. That’s what I think about everytime I want just one little M&M.
What I think about is nouguty goodness melting in my mouth
Compounding that fact is the way nutritional information is laid out on small packaging like candy bars. There’s no handy table, just a long string of words and numbers.

Damn you! Now I want a Snickers but instead I am going for a 4 mile run. Damn you Cashie!
A followup to this post: I just purchased a “Syzmo” organic energy drink.. Servings per container? 1.5.
One point five. What the hell is going on here?
That’s hilarious Jess; I think Vitamin Water is the same way.
