sailor jerry spiced navy rum

I’m not gonna lie to you. In our quest for the cheapest shooters possible (typically purchased for flights - see Greg’s piece here ) we’ve sunk pretty low. From 99 Bananas (?) to “Cherry Wave”, we haven’t been too choosy, especially at the 69-99 cent price point. Imagine my delight @ Argonaut liquor’s register last night finding “Sailor Jerry Spiced Navy Rum”. Being a fan of spiced rum in general, (and seeing the 99 cent price tag) picking one up was a no brainer. The label even looked fancy.

Upon arriving home I quickly realized three things;

  1. Sailor Jerry is 92 Proof. I can’t remember how potent Captain Morgan’s is, and I’m far too lazy to look it up, but damn, that seems strong.
  2. The only mixer in the house was some flat club soda
  3. Sailor Jerry + flat club soda ain’t half bad

    Sailor Jerry is pretty crappy on its own. But mixed with anything else (tea, cider, orange juice, etc) it magically makes everything taste better.

    Someone left a bottle of sailor jerry after a party and I’d have to say its pretty tasty stuff. I had no clue it was so cheap.

    One of the greatest mixers I’ve discovered with spiced rum is passion fruit juice. Fruity yet spicy. yumm.

    [...] Our meal came to a perfect conclusion when, leaving through the bar, I ran into an old friend who lives in the high-rise above the steakhouse.  He treated me to a shot of Sailor Jerry’s Spiced Rum.  Why not?  Why not indeed. [...]
