Roll Your Own Hallmark

I was idly checking the urban monarch tips email when I received a story suggestion from John of Remanents. They have a product, Connect With Style, which is a stainless steel card organizer and a sampling of their artisan greeting cards. The cards themselves have pictures and occasional messages on the outside but the inside is left up to you. Normally I would have passed on the offer, but the email contained such ridiculous suggestions I was immediately curious.

Leave a card:

1. On their pillow–being with you is a dream.
2. Send it to their office–there is no work in loving you.
3. In their cereal–I am hungry for you–let’s have dinner tonight.
4. On the dashboard of their car–you drive me wild.
5. In the medicine cabinet–you are my best medicine.
6. In their luggage, in their shoe–I will miss shoe.
7. With their bills–please pay attention to me.
8. In their book club book–you always read me the right way.
9. In their suit pocket–we are suited for each other.
10. In their gym bag–I am hot (and sweaty) for you.

I had no choice but to email John and ask him to send us a box. I knew there was fun to be had. He quickly replied and the box was on my door within a few days.

The product itself is top quality. The box is solid, stylish, and comes wrapped in a big brown floppy bow. Inside you’ll find card dividers and 6 individually sealed cards. The paper is thick and has a handmade feal. The cards are matched to envelopes that range from metallic silver to translucent white.

At first we decided we would write heartfelt messages to the women in our lives making them feel loved and appreciated. Then we got a better idea, take the box to happy hour and give them to random girls in the bar.

Our first stop identified a significant problem with our plan, there weren’t many females out on the town on Sunday night. Not to be put off, we did the next best thing, we accosted our favorite waitresses.

Our messages grew wittier as the night grew later and the bar tabs grew longer. We had just as much fun coming up with the messages as we did actually delivering the cards. We started with the Bouquet of Tulips card for our happy hour waitress with the message, “We love your tulips.” Later we gave the gellato girl the Golf Shoe card with the message, “You com-cleat me.” Finally the apogee of our evening, the I Love You Heart and Sole card granted the coffee shop girl the inscription, “These shoes are dumb but I bet you have some hot ones in your closet.”

Connect with Style is available online at Remanents. Photos of our shinigans are up on flickr. Personal card writing services can be contracted by emailing me.

    Classic piece greg!

Perhaps it’s for the best that the ‘other two’ we came up with weren’t put into action before your write up ;-)

Good idea and awesome cards. Almost like a Pay It Forward, giving beautiful cards to random people just to make them smile. Very cool.

I see a future in greeting cards for you! So clever - wish I was in the bar that night, I could’ve gotten a card with a super-romantic line like ‘tulips.’ I bet that one scored some points. Or a slap, whichever!

I’ve bought some Remanents things before as well, and they are all so great. The tins are the best presents and so are their t-shirts.

    Skip,

It was all out of the kindness of our hearts.

    Gabrielle,

    You can slap me anytime…
