Real Men Drink Pink

With weather warming up and summer time approaching, it’s time to break out the pinks. Rosés are often overlooked wines, greatly in part due to our americanized, popularized, and often chastised, white zinfandel. However, after pulling the cork on some tastier options, you will quickly learn there is much more to life than Sutter Home.
Wines get their color from the grape skins. When a red wine is made the skins are left in the juice for a few weeks, bringing the final product to a deep red. Rosé is made using the same red grapes, but the skins are taken out after a day or two. The result is a light pink drink.
Rosés can be found in many regions, but you’re going to see a lot of California and Southern France options. The wines come in both still (no bubbles) and sparkling if you’re feeling extra fabulous (which I usually am). Blushes are also pink wines, but are mostly white blend with a touch of red.
Often dubbed porch pounding summer wines, they are the perfect summer drinks. Flavors are going to be lighter than a red, but offer much more body than a white. From bone dry to intensely sweet, there is a pink to fit most palates. Pop a bottle in the fridge for 45 minutes, let it warm up for 10, and it’s booze time.
Last night I attended the big monthly wine tasting held here in Denver. With Napa and Sonoma being the featured regions, I was able to taste a few pale options. Despite the 9 other bottles that snuck onto my order sheet, I managed to find 3 perfect rosés to take home. Now I look forward to pulling them out of the rack for afternoons filled with sunbathing and barbecues.
P.S. The ladies love pink wine.

Porch pounding! Bring on the Saturday afternoon bake outs.
PS: they’re totally gonna deliver those for you, right?
love a good rosé.
side note: http://wine.woot.com usually has great wine deals, and you normally get to try some stuff that you might not normally think to try (orpotentially find in you area).
they even had an amazing Saké once. and the deals are always good.
free shipping this week with the code: APRILWINE
and some nice whites for sippin in the heat.
they did have a nice selection of rosé in the past… every week a new wine deal… so bad and yet so good….
Cash,
Hell yeah bake out. They won’t deliver! I tried again last night but no dice.
Goat,
I’ve been wondering about woot’s wine service. I really like to buy my wine after I taste it but getting new and exciting wines delivered to my door is appealing….
I think I need a small wine cellar.
ordered off of there wine off of there 4 times so far. never had a problem with any of the deliveries. and from what i read in comments, if things get damaged enroute etc they’re real good about reshipping or figuring out how to make things right.
the user reviews of things are always great, and they usually have the wineries get in on the commenting action with lots of amazing information.
ok, i’m sold. I subscribed to the rss feed.
Rosés are awesome!
What types of food would you pair with a rosé wine?
Well, it’s not going to be bold like a red, but it’s going to stand up a lot more than a white, so it’s going to be real versatile. I’d pair it with pastas, tomato rich foods, and grilled vegetables.
some of the sweeter ones pair real nice with a dark chocolate, or are just great on their own as an appertif or dessert without going all out crazy.
Very nice, thank you!
I definitely agree with the dessert part. I had it for Thanksgiving with dessert (not intentionally, but just because that was the bottle that hadn’t been cracked open yet) and it was perfect. I’m thinking rosé would be good with seafood as well.
I’ll take some pumpkin pie right now.
