Quick Tip: Frequently Used Phone Numbers
August 30, 2007 by Greg

I can recite about 5 phone numbers from memory. They are all from my childhood. If you ask me the digits of any friends I’ve made in the last 10 years, I wouldn’t be able to give you one. This became painfully clear a few weeks ago as I sat alone with a dead phone, hoping my friend remembered the invitation name to get into the soft launch of a new lounge. An hour later, I was on my way home to get a new a battery for my phone.
So, I’ve fixed this problem. I’ve written 6 phone numbers of the people I hang out with the most on a business card sized piece of paper. If my phone ever dies again while I’m out on the town, I can just ask to borrow a phone for a quick call and I’m off again.
This can be done as simply as writing these numbers on the back of a business card. In my case, I used my word processor to type up the list in a 2″ x 3″ table. Print, cut, go.

If you go to the wireless store and ask to charge your phone they will invariably say yes.
Awesome idea Greg. I definitely need one of these.
Alex,
Nice tip. Usually it’s the evening when my phone is dying though. I need a wireless phone charger / atm type unit.
I totally know what you mean about being able to recite childhood numbers from memory. I was driving an old friend home the other night, and she was like, “Yeah, the number’s the same, you know it right?” and I rattled it off right away whereas if you asked me what my roommate’s numbers were I wouldn’t be able to tell you. The business card idea is great, I’ll definitely get to it.
My saving grace was remembering Glenn’s cell phone number when I was seperated from the group in Vegas. I would have missed out on Cheetah’s otherwise. Thanks Glennifer.
Gucci; I was totally thinking of that experience when I read this. Definitely a life saver that night.
Elegantly simple. I remember when I didn’t have a cell phone and all my numbers were in a little black book (seriously). I’m going right over to my favorite stationers and getting a Letts.
Thanks and Cheers!
