poll: primary workplace - office or remote?
March 11, 2008 by Cash
Knowing that the majority of our readers pull paychecks from some sort of IT related work, I’m curious: are you primarily working from home / remote or at the office?
The future of all tech work is so obviously in the comfort of a remote work arrangement. The benefits on both sides (employee: comfort, no commute, less stress, more flexibility with hours, etc. employer: less overhead for office space/infrastructure, more productive workforce) are huge. Not to mention the overall benefit of improving the environment by reducing traffic on the roads.
When, oh when will more executive teams wake up? Sigh.

eh, there’s just so much collaboration with the business side of things that working remotely is certainly not a good all inclusive solution for here. Too much face to face connections needed on a daily basis. (plus the scenery…)
I wish I could work from home but it’s not the nature of my current gig. It’d be nice to work on my own computer, in the comfort of my own apt, without worry about driving, dealing with coworkers, or weather or not I felt like wearing a collared shirt that day. It’d be great to save gas (or get rid of my car entirely), eat at home (saving money and healthier), and frankly get more done.
So if anyone’s looking to hire a stay at home information security guy let me know!
I feel the same way as goat, especially being on the project management end of things. I think my efficiency and productivity would actually drop some working remotely.
I have to deal with so many people, from back office to trading so I have to be here to talk to people. I also think that if you’re in someone’s face, they’ll be more apt to give you the information/attention you need. Plus, I would probably just comment on blogs all day long if I had no supervision at work…
