Paying For Sex

Reading about sex and evolutionary biology cleared a lot of things up for me. One of which was the purpose of prostitution and its effects on both the consumers and the providers. Quite often a hushed topic among men, a new article investigates who the men are paying for sex and what their motivations are.
The stereotypical “John” who uses prostitutes is a middle-aged, empty soul whom you might spot slinking around red-light districts in an outsized mac and stained trousers. The uncomfortable truth, though, is that most men who pay for sex are just “regular guys” — colleagues, brothers, fathers, sons and lovers.

I remember years ago hearing a quote that’s stuck with me:
“Sex you pay for is often less expensive than sex you don’t”
The article wisely points out not just the financial element of that statement, but the emotional one as well.
I’m actually working on a project about this and other sex topics (it will be formally launched on January 1 at http://www.ayearinthesexlife.com). One of the more interesting tidbits I found was from the 1948 Kinsey report: 69% of white males had reported have sex with a prostitute.
Good luck with the project Cope, we’ll be checking it out I’m sure.
