I love watching movies and I am always looking for more recommendations. A keystone of some my most enriching friendships is someone who can expose me to new and exciting films.
What have I seen recently that was really good? The first thing that comes to mind is Killing Words. Killing Words is a Spanish thriller with plot twists left and right. Just when you think you have it figured out a new element is added. It kept me guessing right up till the end.
What good movies have you seen recently?

One of the most intense movies I’ve seen recently (actually, ever) is a french film called “Love Me If You Dare”.
To say that it’s a deranged love story is an understatement.
It starts out with two kids who meet in elementary school and begin playing a game of ‘dare’ that basically involves agreeing to do WHATEVER the other person commands when it’s their turn to ‘dare’.
By the time they reach college, their feelings for one another shift into a bizarre romance.
The closing sequence of this movie is one of the most disturbing I have ever seen.
Highly, highly recommended.
Equilibrium - somehow this got overlooked way more than it should have. sci-fi look at keeping us from destroying the world from future wars by submerging people’s emotions.
V for Vendetta - great depiction of a graphic novel. captured to esence of the characters.
CIty of God - Forgein film from Brazil depicting the diverging paths of a couple of youths growing up in a ghetto portion on a major metropolis in south america.
The Thin Man - an old classic, great humour and the interactions between the two stars of the film is great pacing.
Right on goat. My friend was just telling me about city of god last night.
“Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang” was so unexpectedly good. Post-ironic and self-referential without being annoying… which , until now, hasn’t been done well.
Check out The Prestige if you haven’t seen it already.
Tim, I’ll have to add it to the queue. Bongo, I tried to go see it, but it was already out of my theatre. I’ll have to wait till dvd.
Derailed (with Clive Owen, Jeniffer Aniston and Vincent Cassel) - I don’t even want to tell you what’s happening, it is so different from your usual three-way romance… one of the best movies I have seen in the recent months… in DVD.
