I am a huge fan of gambling in general and Blackjack in particular.  The siren’s call of Las Vegas’ neon song is one I heed at least twice a year. 

Spending as much time as I do in a casino, I’ve seen some wild things in my day.

Something tells me I’m not the only gambler amongst our Urban Monarch ranks, so I’m opening the forum to this topic; what’s the craziest / sexiest/ wildest/ strangest etc thing you’ve ever seen in a casino?

My own tale goes something like this.

New Year’s eve weekend, 2000.  It was around midnight that  I found myself at a roulette table (strangely, my game of choice back then) in the Sahara with two friends.  Sitting there, making our 3 dollar bets per hand, we were enjoying ourselves and the free Coronas.

Next thing I know, this nerdy looking Asian guy; wearing a Princeton sweatshirt, approached and sat down.

He bought in for $300, and pulled out a ratty spiral notebook from his bag.   Things seemed to proceed as normal for a bit, which each of us making random bets, winning some, losing some, etc.

What seemed strange though was the fact that this kid was frantically scribbling something in that notebook between rounds.  If I’m not mistaken, nowadays this would not be allowed, but there he was.

After about 5 minutes of play, he suddenly moved most of his chips (I believe it was around $100 worth) onto 25 Black.  (He told the croupier the entire sum was riding on that single number)

Ball spins.  “No more bets”.  And drops.  Into 25 Black.

The kid doesn’t bat an eye, but is paid. 

We figure, good for him, talk about getting lucky. 

Next thing we know though, he AGAIN places $100 on 25 Black.

We’re literally chuckling at his naivete.  Until the wheel spins.  “No more bets”.  And the ball drops.  On 25 Black.  For the second time in a row.

The kid asks to be cashed out.  Buy in:  $300.  Walking (actually rushing) away with: $7,250.  In about 9 minutes of play.

It seems impossible to believe his scribbling and good fortune were totally separate.
