one thing i love: the corner office bar, denver

Besides its convenient location just steps away from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, The Corner Office  restaurant and martini bar’s amazing happy hour has made it a regular Urban Monarch haunt.

The setting is retro-mod without being kitsch; think cubicle inspired 60’s upholstry on comfy bar stools, dimly lit thru dangling, red glass lampshades.  Just inside the front door sexy (often jailbait) hostesses can be found yawning their way through an uneventful shift.

Overall, the bar has a neighborhood feel with an unmistakably upscale edge.  Business travellers (the hip, boutique Curtis Hotel hosts the Corner Office) unwinding in khakis and unbuttoned oxfords rub shoulders with cocktail dress wrapped divas ready for a night at the theatre. Just down the bar, tattooed hipsters debate the merits of the latest Peter, Bjorn and John album while sipping their Stella Artois.

On any given night you might find Greg and I indulging in one, if not both, of the daily happy hours.  From 4-6 daily, 10-12 Monday thru Thursday, and 11-1 Friday and Saturday the already reasonably food and drink prices take a nose dive into value town.

To start things off; a slew of $5 food items, including an amazing 8oz burger and my personal favorite, the “Tom Turkey Club” (featuring cranberry mayo on perfectly toasted wheat).

Also on tap?  An assortment of signature martini’s for $5 as well.  The “Buzz Aldrin” (with Absolut peach and a Tang rimmed glass) and the “Grape Crush” (Absolut rasperri, grape kool-aid rim) are hard to beat, tasty and bordering on strong.

$3 Fat Tire on draft and even a few vegetarian selections (including edamame and an excellent hummus, each for $2.50) help round out the choices.

The crowd heats up after 10PM, but a seat can almost always be found in the back.

PS: don’t miss the ‘post it note’ wall in the bathrooms, where you can scrawl your way to minor fame eschewing the glory of “Ashley’s great ass” as seen on a recent visit.

Recommended.

LOVE LOVE LOVE The Corner Office! I love the Buzz Aldrin with some pita and hummus :-) The shoshito (sp?) peppers are delicious too :-)

I’ve only made it there once for Sunday brunch, but I was super impressed. I think I’m still recovering from the fried chicken & waffles I ate there.

Hmm.. good move Brandon. I’ve never been in the morning; that will have to change soon.
