one thing i hate: ticketmaster
January 21, 2008 by Cash

Justice, Ogden Theatre 3/22/2008.
Ticket “cost”: $25
Actual cost : $40.85
Breakdown:
| ADULT Tickets Total Convenience Charge(s) |
US $25.00 x 1 US $8.25 x 1 |
| Order Processing Charge | US $5.10 |
| TicketFast® | US $2.50 |
| TOTAL CHARGES | US $40.85 |
Fees totaling 63% ABOVE face value. Ridiculous. I’m a capitalist to my core but the mark up here reeks of massive gouging. In my example, I had no interaction with a human being. Everything was handled instantly via a simple online transaction. Even the printing of the tickets will be handled by me (via the TicketFast delivery system).
Here in Denver, you do have the option of buying tickets directly at the venue box office with no additional TM charges added. The problem is that many of the box offices are only open on show days or Saturday mornings. When a concert goes on sale Friday that you think may sell out, you’re taking a chance by waiting to buy.
I’m happy to see companies like TicketWeb making some minor inroads, especially with smaller acts and more intimate venues. Still, to deal with Ticketbastard for a show like Justice at the Ogden Theatre (capacity around 1000 seats I think) is just painful.

I hate:
Postal charge: £3.00
Pick up at venue: £3.00
Eh?
Madness! Here, for some non-concert events (Orchestra, theatre, etc) that TM handles you can choose ‘will call’ and delivery is free, however you still get to pay the ‘convenience charge’ and ‘processing charge’.
Thanks jerks. I have a new policy, only super awesome bands get my ticket master dollars. If someone, say justice, comes to town and sells out before i get to the box office? That’s ok with me.
Yes, continue to root for TicketWeb.
While you’re at it, let’s encourage Old Navy to put Banana Republic out of business, yeah!

you may hate ticketmaster and like ticketweb but to let you know…they are owned by the same company so helping one helps the other….and i work for ticketmaster so i REALLY hate it
