Never Home
July 23, 2008 by Greg

After expanding my boundaries with a series of long distance and long term trips, I realized how easy it is to transplant myself into new surroundings. The world got a lot smaller, far away friends got a lot closer, and distant cultures got a lot more accessible. Now, a conference, birthday party, or wedding in a different city seems like an easy destination to make. So easy that I’m finding myself never at home.
A few thoughts have started stirring to help keep me grounded.
- Get a pet. Not as much responsibility as a family, but a good enough reason to stick close to home.
- Set aside a few periods of time during the year, say 3 months, where I do not leave the immediate area.
- Set aside a few periods of time during the year, say 1 month, where I engage in traveling.
- Get an office job/local responsibilities that keep me in one place.
Any other ideas?

Think of your friends dammit.. think of your friends!!!!!!
I’d rather talk about this one in person as long as you’re not recording. Less incriminating.
I’ve knocked out 77 nights in hotels this year and I’ve got 45 more booked in the next 15 weeks.
What time are you landing in SFO tomorrow I have a 12:40 back to DTW.
