In these reviews you are only going to find albums that are available sans DRM, protecting your right to keep the music you own.  If you don’t understand why your iTunes suck, go read this, decide to stop supporting assholes, and download these hot tracks.

Ratatat, Wildcat

New York’s homegrown artist turned XL label humper Ratatat comes to us with a new single, Wildcat, off their forthcoming sophomore release, Classics, out Aug 22.  If you thought guitars and drum machines were a 2004 thing, they are back with growling cat samples.  More of the same, but hey, who doesn’t want to revisit when ‘Seventeen Years’ was the jam.

Wax Tailor, Tales Of The Forgotten Melodies

We thank France for Laurent Garnier, Mr. Ozio, and now Wax Tailor.  This album originally debuted in France in 2005, but picked up distribution this side of the pond in April of 2006.  This slamming long format DJ spun sample heavy creation is now clawing it’s way up our hip to know list.  Think DJ Shadow invites Portishead and Gravediggaz over for laudenum.  Check ‘Que Sara’ for the hotness.

Girl Talk, Night Ripper

This is the mash-up dj mix for 2006.  This album combines Pixies with Nas and Elton John with Biggie.  With over 150 samples from all genres mixed in under 42 minutes, it would be hard not to start a conversation with this album playing.  Download this album and weave it in as background music for your summer sworays, because after people forget the laffy taffy song, this isn’t going to be cool anymore.

    Ohmigawd.

Could you BE any more melodramatic? “Look out below, the big bad corporations are coming in with their streamlined, convenient products and millions and millions of popular songs..It’s the end of the world as we know it!”

I am an absolute iTunes enthusiast and have no problems with the DRM. Granted, I have an iPod, but I have this to say for eMusic; once they offer more than three bands I’ve heard of and or want in my collection, maybe I’ll consider signing up.

In the meantime, I’ll continue supporting the ‘big bad wolf’.

In other news I defy ANYONE to show me a music jukebox program that’s more user friendly and perfectly suited to entertaining than iTunes.

Oh, and props on the good reviews, sans your vitriolic diatribe.

Ratatat is truly the bizzomb, and I will try to hear that mash up in the near future.

Oh and what will be truly priceless is when I start doing music reviews here; and feature only bands available on iTunes :P

Did I say anything about big bad corporations?

I said DRM and iTunes (the peices of music you buy) suck. Apple’s software and products are designed, built, and marketed beautifully. I just don’t pay for music that I can only listen to (digitally) on iTunes or on iPods. That’s like paying for books you can only read with sony glasses, movies you can only watch on dell tvs, or cds you can only play on bose stereos.

As far as emusic having more than three artists you like, here are 4 just off the top of my head:

    zero 7
    dead can dance
    cocteau twins
    underworld

I’m providing reviews of good music available without the bullshit. You can still play them in your iPod, off your mac mini, or hook them up to your bang & olufsen stereo.

    You haven’t changed my mind, but I will give you mad props for making your point so brilliantly;

“That’s like paying for books you can only read with sony glasses, movies you can only watch on dell tvs, or cds you can only play on bose stereos.”

    Very well put.
