music leashed : editors - the back room
August 22, 2006 by Cash
The resurgence of 80’s-a-like new wave influenced rock owes as much to the strength of the source material as it does to the greed and lack of creativity of so many up and coming, soon to be has-been bands.
Luckily, the British four piece Editors find a way to transcend their influences and create music that’s as eerily familar as it is unique.
Tighly wound bass lines, cracking snares and tremolo laden guitar lines form an electric current the runs in perfect parallel with Tom Smith’s brooding, Ian Curtis infused vocals.
As suited for a candlelit, rain soaked evening of introspection in a moody suburban teenager’s bedroom as it is the dance floor, ‘the back room’ deserves several spins.
