movie preview- david lynch : inland empire
April 19, 2007 by Cash
I think it was Tuesday night that I received a strange, two word text from Greg. “Inland Empire” it cryptically said. In the flurry of other stimulus that night, I forgot all about it.
Yesterday, I did a quick search and discovered it’s the new David Lynch film, which just opened here in Denver. I’m no stranger to Lynch’s work, having been a fan since sneaking into Wild at Heart while it was still playing in the theatres. How I missed word of his latest work is puzzling.
According to Westword (UM’s favorite weekly alternative here in Denver), he’s once again walking the blindfolded audience through a carnival spook-house of sensory overload.
Nikki’s mansion devolves into a squalid dump, and a scary Pole known as the Phantom appears next door. Blood mixes with ketchup at a backyard barbecue. Nikki plays her big scene at 4 a.m. at the intersection of Hollywood and Vine, staggering across the star-spangled pavement to collapse amid the homeless.
Sounds irresistable; and I’ll be heeding its call this weekend (hopefully with pre-showing Bloody Mary’s @ the Hornet) if at all possible.

Yeah that was me trying to persuade you to watch inland empire instead of grindhouse, as it fit better with my schedule. Curiously though, they are almost the same length.
Aha! Well, maybe we can fit it in this weekend.
