meet chumby, clock radio killer
September 11, 2006 by Cash
The transition towards a Buck Rogers-esq ‘home of the future’ seems even closer with the introduction of “Chumby”, a mini bedside computer.
Chumby, in addition to replacing the alarm and timepiece functionality of your current clockradio, will also offer an ‘always on’ internet connection (via your current wi-fi network!) that will drive a varitey of flash based ‘widgets’.
Just a few expected features will include integration with your Google calendar, world time, a flickr photo viewer (that will even offer your friends the ability to send cell-photos direct to your Chumby showing all the fun you’re missing out on when you decide to stay in for the night), newsfeeds (no more midnight runs to the home office to see what’s happening on Slashdot), basic messaging, etc.
The keyboardless Chumby is also ‘open source’ meaning hackers and ‘conventional’ developers alike will no doubt continue to improve it and add widgets as time goes on.
Chumby is expected to retail under $150 and should be available ’soon’

I want one. My simulated dawn alarm clock is pretty cool though.
In reading this post again, I begin to wonder if I thought they were having a ’special’ on ’single quotes’. I obviously raked in the savings if so.
