Living in Two Cities
March 4, 2008 by Greg

I love the freedom my career provides me. I am thankful for the opportunity to pick up my laptop and head to a coffee shop, a library, or how I’m currently working, even another city. However exciting working in a new town is, setting up temporary home also comes with temporary tools that aren’t quite as good as what I have at home.
It’s not just a longing for my resources at home, but longing for a sense of permanence. It would be easy to get a nice office chair, a set of cooking utensils, or a radio to listen to music, but the temporary nature of my stay keeps these comforts out of reach. So, I’ve been fantasizing about living in a second city.
I’ve been thinking about saving a little money, getting another apartment, and traveling freely between the two. It would double my available working market, in addition to opening up a whole other slew of resources a new city offers. When I get bored of one town, just hop in a jet, and head to the other.
Anyone have any experience maintaining two homes in different cities? Any recommendations on relatively inexpensive metropolitan areas with a significant tech arena?

I’ve heard the bay area is dirt cheap
Any area with a significant tech arena isn’t going to be cheap. NYC, SFO, Boston, DC are all pretty high priced.
I’m going back to living in two places..Detroit and Newark. Could you pick two better places in the US to live ha ha ha. Slightly different than what you are talking about though as in Newark I’m living in a Marriott.
