liquor: what’s in, what’s out
23Apr08
According to our fine friends at Modern Drunkard Magazine, here’s just a few ideas on what’s in and out, booze wise:
Jager is finally out, unless you’re in high school.
Bourbon, especially small batch is in with a vengence.
The watered down Jack Daniels is washed right out.
Flasks are back in.
Old Fashioneds are in.
Kamikazes are out.
Rye whiskey is trying like hell to come back in, but for now it’s still out.

What are we supposed to drink at $2 a shot college bars now?
I think gin is making serious inroads. Although it has always been a favorite of mine, I’ve seen some new brands from all over the world showing up. France, India, and even Portland, OR.
It could be that the vodka game has been played out completely, and now those companies have to find their margins in another white liquor.
Greg- Rumplemints? Ha!
Two things I need to do.
1. I need a flask. Stat. I only seem to get male friends of mine flasks and have never purchased one for myself.
2. Celebrate with bourbon that Jager is finally out. Thank god. Unless I am hitting on the high schoolers again…
I just saw the hottest milf in hollywood poll. Who the hell voted for J-LO?
Anyway, I have a flask as a groomsman’s gift, but am ashamed to say I’ve never used it. Does it make you look like a raging alcoholic if you have to carry around your booze?
Also, here’s some fun stuff… http://www.shoutwire.com/viewstory/152947/10_Cool_Gadgets_Every_Geek_Should_Want
I like the LED faucet.
Someone accidentally selected her name instead of Kates. It was a mistake. Unless they really like crunchy taco kisses.
And there is no shame in carrying a flask. If anyone has a problem with it or asks about it, just say it is the classier and cheaper way to go about.
Jillian, I love it:
“Yes it’s a flask.. (BURP) I’m a classy sophisticate you uncultured (BURP) rube!”
In all honesty Ben; for both an evening’s drinking at expensive lounges (where a diet coke can be ordered every other round and then ’spiced up’ in the gentlemen’s BR) and especially for having a good time at an otherwise boring movie- flasks are the best.
OMG I should have checked back here sooner. Jillian that’s some good stuff. Since my name is Ben, you KNOW I love the taco flavored kisses. Except for the ones from scantily clad hand puppets!
Cash, PJ says we’ll all go out soon. I’ll bring my flask.
Looking forward to it Ben!
Alright… whoever voted J-Lo for a second time is just crazy. No doubt about it. Even if their name is Ben too.
I SWEAR that it wasn’t me. J-Lo might be booty-licious to some of my Latin friends, but I’ll only admit to using another IP address to vote for Jessica! “EEEEWWWWW Ben Affleck splooge!!!!”
Sorry, it must be the $10 bottle of Barefoot Cab speaking…
I’m trying out Old Fashioneds at home after noting this and researching what it really was. I’m a big fine bourbon and Scotch drinker, so I was happy as hell to figure out what this was (never bothered even trying to mix my whisk[e]y, just neat). Thankfully during my research I came across the excellent breakdown at Drinkboy.com. This simple recipe and the extensive history steered me right to an awesome cocktail and helped me avoid what seems to be the inevitable disappointment I would encounter if ordering at a bar or club.
Man, this cocktail even tastes classic.
Fenriz; thanks for the comments, and it’s good to see another Coloradan checking out UM.
Old Fashioneds and Manhattans are both delicious.
