laws of leanness : eat before bed

Men’s Health has always been great about providing simple, bullet point style lists of things you can do to improve your health.

One that I’ve recently rediscovered is their “10 laws of leanness”.  #9 on the list is “eat before bed”

If you’re trying to build muscle while losing weight, you may need some food right before sleep to keep your body from breaking down muscle tissue as you snooze.  Planning this snack will help you resist the temptation to inhale chocolate fudge cake at midnight.

If you’re trying to gain weight, your bedtime snack will help you maximize muscle growth.

In either case, limit this snack to about 500 calories.  A half cup of ice cream with some nuts and fruit is a nice way to end the day.  Don’t make this snack too high in protein, though; that can kick your brain into overdrive, creating intense dreams and waking you up.

I can honestly say since incorporating this into my nightly routine I’ve seen increased muscle definition, and more importantly, have been sleeping far more soundly.  Two solid benefits from such a simple change.

One of my goals now that I’m working out more regularly is to build more muscle mass. I’m alittle apprehensive about using Creatine and Supplements, I prefer to build mass more naturally.

I will definately try this suggestion, Thank you Cash.
