iRobot Roomba Red Review

Shortly after I was raining praises on the simple joys that sweeping your apartment brings, I picked up a slickdeal for a remanufactured iRobot red.  To my surprise it was actually green (and has a note on the box that says color may differ from the product photo.)  I think this amazon review was the tipping point in my decision to purchase one.

Surprised and happy is my current state of mind. This thing seems to have a life of its own, and I believe it loves to clean. Set it down on your broom-swept, looks-clean floor, and prepare to be surprised. At the end of the cycle, you will find a full dust bin of stuff that was still on (and in) your floor.

Setup is really easy.  You just pull it out of the box, unwrap everything, insert the included battery, and start charging.  Shortly after you hit the clean button and it starts running into stuff.

To my delight one of the first place my iRobot decided to go was under my couch.  Being that it sits just a few inches off the ground it had plenty of room to go about clearing out the dust bunnies collected from the past week.  In seemingly random circular patterns it continued to run all over my apartment, up and over area rugs, cleaning as it went.  Occasionally a blue light would illuminate indicating it detected an extra dirty area and it would hang out in the same area for a little bit cleaning it up.  After a few circles it was back on its way to a cleaner house.

Looking into the easily detachable dust bin, I was surprised at how much it had picked up.  Especially considering I had swept just 4 days prior.  It also had a 16 cents it had collected for me.  Thanks iRobot!

I do believe it loves to clean, and I think I’m in love with it for that fact.  Screw getting a dog.  Get an iRobot.  If this thing keeps operating like this, I’ll buy it some new toys like the self docking recharge station (when it’s done it returns to its base for a recharge), a timing remote (set it to clean automatically at any time of the day), and probably a few invisible walls to keep it focused in certain rooms.
