ipod shuffle battery life kicks ass

There are plenty of things I love about “Kobe”, my silver iPod shuffle.  Size-wise, she’s the perfect gym companion.  Even in the midst of a brutal cardio workout I hardly know she’s there.  She also sounds great, even driving a pair of huge, dorky headphones.  Knowing her as well as I do though, she still manages to surprise me. This past weekend I found myself falling in love with her all over again.

Friday, midnight.  I wake up from a two hour post-work nap and get started on the final pre-move preperations.  This is no small feat.  It’s actually a ten hour task, running right up until the time my friends show up to commence hauling my stuff away.  The whole time, Kobe keeps me company, rawking everything from Elliot Smith to Muse to Frank Sinatra.  In the midst of the Saturday dolly wielding choas, her whereabouts are quickly forgotten.

Sunday, noonish.  After sharing a delicious lunch with my lovely girlfriend, I return to my old place alone, intent on cleaning.  Walking into my empty loft, the silence slaps me across the face.  There is no way I can do this without music.  My computer & iTunes?  Long since gone.  The antique boombox on the countertop offers no relief either, as its power cord is buried in an unmarked box miles away.  Then I see her; sitting atop a pile of packing supplies.  For the next two hours, Kobe serenades me as I scrub and vacuum.   My girlfriend returns later to help run a Volvo’s worth of Cash goods to my new place.  Afterwards I return to cleaning, spending at least three hours with the sounds of my iPod to keep me company.

Monday, early AM.  Frazzled to my core on a combined 10 hours of sleep over 3 days, I start my hour long commute to work.  Kobe plays on.

Over 15 hours on a single charge.  Considering Apple’s own spec-sheet show a 12 hour battery life, I couldn’t be happier.

never fell onto the ipod wagon. mainly because i tend to keep most of my music in the ogg format, which is a no go for the ipod.
