improving itunes : volume logic software review

The perfect party.
Cocktails, beautiful women and music. Oh yes, music. The foundation of every swinging soiree. However vast your digital music collection may be, chances are good it’s not living up to its full potential.
Picture it now; Your guests are rocking out to an 80’s classic, let’s say A-ha’s Take On Me for example. Everyone’s enjoying the kitsch-tastic fun of it all and then.. BOOM; the next track comes on just slightly louder than a 747 taking off from your bathroom.
Glasses shatter. Speakers are blown. Dogs start howling in the distance.
What happened?
20 years of studio technology improvements happened. Songs these days are recorded and mastered in a way that’s vastly superior to that of their predecessors. The difference is quite audible, and can cause a real problem when your jukebox switches from one to the other.
In addition to this, there’s another problem with our beloved digital libraries. Compression. Unless you’re encoding your music as .wav files or using Apple’s ‘lossless’, you’re losing a lot of the sonic punch of your songs due to the compression necessary to keep those files’ size reasonable.
Enter Octiv’s Volume Logic Software.
Volume Logic is a plug in for your digital jukebox software. It’s not just for iTunes either, in fact, VL works with the following:
- Windows Media Player
- Mac iTunes
- Windows iTunes
- WinAmp
- Real Player
- Musicmatch
What does it do?
The Volume Logic plug-in achieves greater clarity and intelligibility, by working with audio elements your ear can perceive. Low levels are intelligently raised and loud signals are kept under control, all in real-time.
Why should you care? All this audio processing optimizes the audio signal so you can get the best performance from your speakers. Louder, more impact, more detail without overdriving and clipping your speakers.
Volume Logic is also incredibly easy to use. Once installed, it launches everytime you load your jukebox. In addition to the default mode, there are 18 presets for specific music types (Rock, Jazz, etc) that automatically EQ and adjust to get the best out of these specific genres.
I find that the “Rock” setting works great for everything from electronica to piano driven Emo.
Overall, Volume Logic is a great addition to your music collection. Your guests, and glassware, will thank you for using it.
