how to use valet parking

The last time I remember using valet parking was in Atlanta a couple of years ago. I was driving my girlfriend to dinner at some uber-trendy midtown hotspot. We were running late after ahem, “losing track of time” somehow and needed to ditch the car in a hurry to make our reservation. Atlanta, like most highly populated cities suffers from a shortage of convenient self-parking options, especially in the upscale dining/drinking district.
I learned some lessons from many nights in Atlanta like that one, which included the now questionable practice of tipping both before and after leaving our car with the valet.
Although I don’t have many encounters with valets nowadays (viva la downtown, car-free living) I figure our readership at large could benefit from some guidance on dealing with the strangers you trust your car keys to.

Rude behavior on your part can put one of your most valued possessions at risk for abuse or damage. If you have a complaint, take it to the manager. Usually they can resolve any issues you have.
Note: It was easier to find a picture of the Atlanta skyline than a valet parking attendant. It’s cooler to look at as well.

Looks like another successful graduate from the “trolling for dummies” college. It’s like my internets has morning breath.
I love hate comments. I only hope that one day my blog gets popular enough to snag a few of them. Its all in the numbers, 0.003% of readers comment, of them 1% are ‘Arch Angels’, so i would need about 33k readers to get some hate mail.
I drive a cheaper car so I’m not that worried about what the valet might do, but if i was rich i would just have a chauffeur, he can sit in the back when i want to drive.

Greg why didn’t you actually put in some words about what is acceptable for tipping and when (before/after)
I always tip after never before.
