Flask me this:
Flask me that how many drinks can you get from a flask like that?
Drink prices have continued to go up, but believe it or not, there are some simple ways to save money and let you have more fun out on the town.
We are going to start, first and foremost with one of the greatest creations ever conceived. That creation, my friends is the flask.
No longer is the flask reserved solely for the old man sitting next to you on the bus or the drunk guy that used to sit 3 rows back from you in class (who always smelled of cheap booze and wore that same damn hat every day for 4 years).
The flask is making a comeback as a staple for the man about the town.
Lets think about this. You go out on the weekend with your friends to have some fun and end up spending an easy hundred fifty dollars just on drinks alone. When you wake up in the morning all you have to show for it is a head that feels like it is going to burst because of some little man sitting in there with a big drum.
A flask can save you alot of money over the course of a month because in an average flask you can have enough booze for 4-5 stiff drinks. At $8 dollars each, that adds up quick.
THE TECHNIQUE
1. Go to the liquor store and choose your favorite alcoholic beverage (my favorite choice is Hanger One Vodka, about $25.00 for the 750ml bottle).
2. Fill your flask with the delicious nectar of the Gods and head out on the town.
3. Once you’ve arrived at the club, go to the bar and order your favorite mixer ie. soda water, tonic, orange juice, cranberry juice, sprite etc.
4. Alright this is the one step that might and can get you thrown out of the establishment if you are caught. This is the step where you add your delicious libation to the mixer you got at he bar.
There are a few nice and easy steps you can use to do this.
MIXING IT UP
1. The first is the safest, all you have to do is head to the restroom and close one of the stall doors. From there you can take your time with the mixology of your drink.
2. Technique two is just as easy; go back to your table, take out your flask and put them both under the lip of the table. Now it’s just a matter of loading your liquid courage into the mixer until you are satisfied. (Ed note: A 3 second pour is usually sufficent for an 8 oz drink)
3. Step three is what I like to call “the shield”; basically it’s just having a friend or an unsuspecting fellow bar patron stand right in front of you to block the view of everyone else (trust me it’s brilliant)
5. Drink up. (I would have to say that this is the easiest of all the steps because all you have to do is drink and enjoy.)
WHERE TO BUY
You can pick up a simple flask at most any of your bigger liquor stores.
If you would like to pick up something more unique, you can find what you’re looking for online. For instance, Gunther Gifts has a decent selection.
OTHER TIPS
The second step to save money is to stop buying girls drinks.
Yes you heard me right!
I said stop.
Women, God bless ‘em, work too right?
The answer to that question is yes they do. Great! This means they don’t need you to buy their drinks for them.
Here are a few ways that you could fall prey into buying a drink for a women you don’t even know:
THE TRAPS
1. She smiles at you from across the room and you smile back. She makes her way over to you and introduces herself. You talk for a second or two and she tells you how funny and handsome you are (which right then and there you should have known she was up to something, because you have never been funny) then she asks you to buy her a drink.
If you run across this type of women just say “I am sorry, I don’t buy girls drinks, but you are more then welcome to buy me one” If she just turns and walks off then you know she was trying to use you for a free drink. Congratulations for staying strong and saving eight bucks. Now if that same woman laughs and says ok what do you want, then drink the free drink get and her phone number because that’s a good sign.
2. You can’t think of any other way to to talk to the girl at the bar. You want to talk to her, so you ask the bartender to get her a drink.
Bad move. If you can’t think of anything to say to her without buying her a drink then you need more help than the bartender is ever going to give you.
Trust me on this one, you will get a lot better results just going up to her and saying “hi” than sending a drink down her way and wasting eight bucks.
OK so with that said stop buying girls drinks. Unless it’s a girlfriend, or a good friend who you owe a drink to, don’t make exceptions.
THE FINAL FRONTIER
The third step to save money is also simple and there is only one step to it:
1. Decide how much money you are willing to spend for the night before you head out.
Go to the ATM and withdraw that amount of money and then leave your credit card and ATM card at home when you go out.
That way, when you spend the budgeted amount you can’t start putting it on your card afterwards.
I’m sure most of us have also done the “get drunk and start buying drinks for everyone” routine. By leaving your cards at home you take this stupid and costly move away from yourself without needing any self-control.
CONCLUSION
With these simple & smart moves you will be able to save money and have fun more often, without spending too much money.

One important note: TIP AND TIP WELL! It’s not the server’s fault the drinks are so pricy, so you need to make sure you take care of them tip wise, on your virgin ‘mixers’. Besides, if they catch you in the act of filling up, they’re more likely to look the other way if you’ve proven yourself a good customer by tipping. This is essential, and you’re still saving a lot of money.
I definitely second Cash’s tipping recommendation. I still tip when I get a water from the bartender.
Another way to handle women asking you to buy them drinks… when they ask, reply with, “Sure! I’ll buy a drink for you, you buy a drink for me, and we’ll surprise each other!” (Credit to Johnny Saviour)
I agree, I didn’t even put it in because it should allways be done, you take care of them and they take care of you.
