how to meet girls : part 3, be well groomed
November 14, 2006 by Cash

When it comes to meeting women, most of us have heard the saying “you don’t have to be good looking, you just have to be well groomed”.
If you haven’t heard this yet, now you have.
It’s quite true.
The fairer sex is called that for a reason; in my opinion they are infinitely more tolerable of a man’s, ahem ‘unique’ features or looks than us superficial guys would ever be.
Grooming however, is another matter, and one they take far more seriously.
So what exactly does ‘being well groomed’ mean? Your sartorial sherpa Cash has 5 simple tips you can use to improve your chances considerably.
1. Keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed
Scratching a girl on purpose if she’s into it? Hot. Scratching a girl on accident, Not. Fingernails and toenails should be trimmed well beneath the tip. (Trimmed, not chewed) This means you will see skin in front of the nail. Easy test: Ask a female friend, relative, or coworker if they think your nails are too long. They probably are.
- GOOD: Buy a good set of clippers and trim your nails every 3 days or so
- BETTER: Get a manicure and a pedicure. Doing this just once will let you in on the secret world of how professionals handle the task.
2. Shave the back of your neck
Daily. You heard me. Once you’re done with your stubble, take the blade and clean up the back of your neck.
3. Keep your eyebrows, nose and ear hair in check.
Regular scissors can prove dangerous for the task.
A specialized brow clipper, like this one is a far safer bet. To cover all your bases though (eyebrows, nose, ear hair) a combination groomer, like this one, can be a lifesaver.
Don’t overlook the ‘nether regions’ either. Keeping your private parts well groomed will not only make you look larger (not that you need it, Mr. Digler) but is also preferable to a hairy briar patch that your partner must navigate when it comes time to put your member where her mouth is.
4. Whiten your teeth
This is one frontier I’m just about to cross for the first time. Brushing alone isn’t nearly powerful enough. All those years of java swilling, chain smoking (I kid, I kid) red wine guzzling madness take their toll. Time to shine.
- GOOD: At home whitening system. A wealth of information can be found at Animated-Teeth. Quicker, easier to digest reviews of whiteners can be found here.
- BETTER: Professional whitening. Though far more expensive (can range from $300-$1200) it is the quickest, longest lasting choice for whitening. I’ve heard great things about BriteSmile which is currently offering a $399 deal including ‘touch ups’.
*Readers: Do you have any experience with whiteners? Please let me know in the comments.
5. Shower Daily
You may consider this a ‘no brainer’ but I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve heard friends say they’ve skipped a shower on days off, when they think they’ll be staying in, etc.
The problem is the moment you pop out to go to the store ‘just for a sec.. to get more cheese whiz’ is precisely the moment you’ll run into another Britney Spears sex tape, waiting to happen (with you).
Be prepared. Be clean. Always.
Additonal Tip:
Chapped lips don’t get kissed. Invest in a quality, SPF protecting lip balm to keep your mouth ready for action. I personally have taken a real shine to Aveeno’s Medicated Lip Balm. Just be sure you use something.
Go get em, well groomed tigers.

Discussion: Especially for the ladies; what other tips do you have for being groomed to perfection? Something guy’s typically miss? Comment away, please.

Something I just learned about teeth whitening, results vary no matter what system you use. So keep in mind what works well for your friend may not for you.
Excellent tip, thanks Catherine
I just started reading this site, and I have to say, it’s phenomenal.
Anyway, as far as lip balm… two other great ones are ChapStick brand Lip Moisturizer and Labello’s Hydrocare (unfortunately, you have to get it from Canada but believe me, it’s worth it.)
Thank you very much for the compliment on the site Chris!
As for the lip balm, I’ll have to check those out; hopefully I can track them down online.
Wrinkled shirts are a no-no. I’m not saying press your t-shirts, but you look prepared and “complete” if you haven’t just slept in your shirt. It’s a good indicator of cleanliness for me. GoSmile has worked well for my mother and myself, for fairly intense teeth whitening.
Natasha, great advice. For men seeking a simpler way to take care of the wrinkles, read this.
