how to forget

September 17, 2008 by Cash

We’ve done a few posts on improving one’s mental abilities, i.e memory, focus, etc.  But what happens when you want to do just the opposite?  I need to forget a particular phone number. Pronto.  Any tips/tricks you might suggest?

P.S. Yes, I’ve tried booze.  No, it doesn’t work.

if it’s a number in your cell, break it. add/delete random digits so you have to go through the extra effort to type out the whole number. beyond that good luck

if you really want to forget it, try negative operant condition. Everytime you think about that number cause some physical pain to yourself and eventually you won’t think about it and will forget it.

of course you could look like a madman to everyone else if you just pound your hand with a hammer while walking down the street

I think hypnotherapy works. If you convince yourself it is in your best interest to forget the phone number, you will. There are basic self hypnosis techniques that you can find that work just as well as paying someone to do the same thing.

Acquire a new number to replace it with!

I’m with Jess on this one. That’s a tried-and-true remedy, and probably the least painful of all.
