Several years ago my sister surprised me at Christmas with a George Foreman Grill.  At the time I was both living in an apartment with a TINY, almost unusable kitchen, as well as beginning to get into healthier eating habits.  The grill turned out to be the the perfect gift for both these reasons.  It cooked my two staples at the time, chicken and salmon, quickly, evenly and most important -easily.

Cleaning up afterwards however was anything but.

The plastic scraper that’s included as a ‘cleaning tool’ required so much elbow grease to be effective that I often considered it a workout in an of itself.

Still, I used that thing almost daily for over a year.  When I moved into my new place, with a larger, open kitchen, it was no longer a necessity and was retired to the shelf for awhile.

A few months ago I started using it again, and at the same time came up with a simple, incredibly effective means of cleaning it.

THE TECHNIQUE

1)  Allow grill to cool completely (I usually wait overnight due to how hot that thing gets)
2)  Fill a glass measuring cup or other microwave-safe vessel with water, and microwave on high until it boils.
3)  With grill hanging over the edge of the sink, slowly pour boiling water over cooking surface (hardened food, grease, etc).
4)  Once the water has run off, scrub with a paper towel (anything else could damage the surface) to remove food and grease.
5)  Flip grill over and repeat 1-5 for the top surface.

Dry with a final paper towel and you’re done.

I like to make veggie burgers on foreman grills.

i found the easiest answer was take a damp papertowel and wipe the thing down right after using it, while everything is still warm. makes it easy to clean off. i then celebrate with a hearty meatshake.

I just recently started actively using my George Foreman grill and I love it! I can make healthy, quick meals like you wouldn’t believe and I am discovering other menu plans. I’m one of the people who uses a water soaked paper towel immediately after cooking. It only takes about 3-5 minutes, but probably less, depending on what you are cooking. You’re grill is hot and with a wet paper towel you can’t go wrong. Anything that sticks wipes off, quickly. As far as the drip catcher, I use a large plate and that works excellent! I don’t buy greasy meat. I buy fish, chicken, or lean beef and I just found this fabulous recipe for a grilled cheese sandwich, made with goat cheese and apple slices, yummy.
