How do you fly?
14Apr08

I’m currently working out a few wedding flights, and last on the list is out to Hawaii for my friend Cory’s wedding. I’ve got a few options to get out there, but I’m currently being tempted by a direct flight for just $200 more than a low fare, laid over, 10 hour longer flight. How do you readers fly? Direct or cheap?

To quote from the holy book of Tim Ferrisotomy, chapter 4, verse 242:
“For someone embarking on a mini-retirement, an extra $150 for hassle-free airfare amortized over two months is a better deal than 20 hours of manipulating frequent flier points on an unknown airline or chasing questionable deals”.
Your certainly in a position to afford the higher priced ticket, so why deal with the headache?
Multiply your hourly rate x10 hours you’d be losing via the layover, and it’s an easy answer.
May the 4 Hour Work Week be with you, and also with you my son.
With the length of the flight to Hawaii, the extra money spent on flying direct will be well spent.
At this point I’ll take comfort over anything. Flying is a miserable experience, and I find the slightest improvement typically makes the whole trip more worthwhile. At this point it’s Jet Blue or Virgin for my money. Being able to actually accomplish things while on the plane rather than suffering through the flight, and arriving feeling good rather than like you walked, is worth every penny.
Direct when there is a 10 hour longer flight involved as you mention. If there is a connecting flight where I don’t have to change plane’s I try to save a few bucks.
