Subject: hi from a girl who dates sexy geeks

Hey there!

I loved your post on fashion for geeks.  I’m [removed], a 17 year old (geek) who looks for smart guy geeks to date, but if and only if they know how to dress.  Many of us sub-consciously think about their fashion sense, but I’d say the vast majority of us consciously think about the individual stores and brand names of the clothing items our prospective boyfriends choose to wear.

I’m currently dating a geek in San Francisco, and if it wasn’t for his high ranking on the social hierarchy (and good fashion sense,) I probably wouldn’t be dating him.  This doesn’t make me a bad person.  Just a normal girl!  And I’m sure you agree to, which I greatly appreciate.

If you’d like more inside scoop ideas from the perspective of an underage girl in the tech world, feel free to shoot me an email.  Always happy to help out my fellow bloggers!

Who’s letting 17 year old girls on the internet?  They only spend their time emailing randy older men…

there are no cute 17 year old girls on the internet that like to date geeks, they don’t exist.

Either she’s an ugly, middle age, balding man who is role playing or Chris Hansen from to catch a predator, either way don’t fall for it and agree to meet her.

    Run away!

Sadly Lee, and not to make things even worse, but I can vouch for said youngster’s cuteness. Her email included links to her blog, etc. She’s adorable.

    In a completely non-sexual-i’m-so-platonic-in-these-thoughts-i-should-have-a-halo way.

You hear mean John Henson? :-)

hence the imagery at the beginning of the post…

Maybe we should send her Glenn’s email…. Ha. Tell him to wear his Apple shirt!

I can and do appreciate honesty from people, but I really hope she understands that her admitted shallowness is NOT to be applauded regardless of how “normal” she thinks it is. Keep up the honesty, but aim for a little (lot?) more substance.

Well, she would have missed Bill Gates had she been around back then. He never HAS learned how to dress. How many people hold that against him? Real Geeks have more to think about than clothing…of course, this depends on your definition of a ‘geek’. Does she simply mean anyone in the computer industry, or the ‘movers and shakers’ in that industry? Lots of IT guys spend lots of time and money on how they look, but lots of them are peons…no insult meant here guys…obviously not talking about you!! But the engineers and other innovators usually have other things to spend their time on. How they look is the furthest thing from their minds, IMHO. I know plenty of them, and they practically live at their work. Often they have no social life, and seem not to miss it. They believe that things like that can wait till they’ve ‘made it’. BTW, check out pictures of all the important men (females are a bit different) in the industry, and you will see they dress in whatever first comes to hand in the mornings, or whenever they think of changing clothes…LOL!! Show me even one who’s a fashion icon. “Girl” needs to figure out what’s important to her, brains and ambition or clothes. Of course, at 17 she has lots of time to straighten out her priorities. Lucky girl.
