hello lurkers!
March 6, 2008 by Cash
Urban Monarch has come a looong way, readership wise, since we started back in July of 2006. Not that you could tell from the number of people commenting. My good friend Donnie brought this to my attention. After sharing the fact that UM reaches tens of thousands of readers every month (in over 100 countries - thanks Google analytics!), his response was confusion.
.
“Really? Why are there only like 5 people commenting then?”.
Hmm, why indeed?
To our ‘regulars’ who have made UM’s comment threads feel a bit like a close knit neighborhood coffeeshop (I’m looking at you: goat, Jess, Telan, Ben, Caroline, PJ, Jillian, ..etc, etc), thank you!
To everyone else, from Baghdad to Budapest, Anchorage to Antiqua; why not join the party and speak up?
We love hearing from all our readers, and hope to see more of you responding to our posts soon.

Yes! Finally a shoutout! I feel so loved! Off to Rockbar to celebrate…
IF YOU MUST, haha. No, really, great blog guys. Have been reading UM since it’s inception.
lurking is an old and honored internet tradition, but since you’re asking us to reveal ourselves - HI!
I think I’ve commented once or twice, but only if I have something to add, which is unfortunately rare.
I really enjoy UM and have it on my RSS feeder and read it daily.
keep up the good work.
Lee
Same as lee…posted comments but a few times, read daily.
I really need to get myself one of them “website” or “blog” things so I can make my name a fancy pink.
Oh, wait, apparently my name is linked to my flickr account on this computer. Whoops!
So, I’ve at least got the pink…. sometimes.
O come on now Cash, is it really a popularity contest?
Daily reader, sometimes commenter, I’ll have to make more of an effort. Maybe email in more questions.
Your blog is always enjoyable, but possibly the lack of comments is due to the lack of controversy. Which is a good thing. Otherwise, you just bring out the trolls and haters. You feed us interesting tit-bits, but you pretty much stay away from political commentary, etc. I HATE reading nastiness left by said trolls and haters on other blogs, or places like You Tube. This blog is like a little haven on the internet, everyone ‘plays nice’. I love the little factoids you provide. Please don’t change it up just because so few people comment. We DO read it, that’s the important thing. I have enough stress at work, don’t need more on the internet. When I read particular comments, full of venom and bile on other sites, it makes my blood boil. I always wish there were a way to reach through the screen and pummel those nasty people. They seem to make a full-time job of hating.
So, thanks for this little island of serenity.
I know I read it regularly since nearly the beginning, but if I commented on all the blogs I read, a 3 hour process would turn into 6.
Keep up the good work though!
So I just left a fuckload of comments. Don’t confuse me with a lurker inspired by this post though, I’m only reading when I comment. So no comments means I haven’t been reading.
Comments in your face!!!
That’s cool. I try to tell people about UM, but its been awhile since I’ve been here. Glad I’m back. UM is like an older brother tellin me how to be cool and just bringin up stuff that’s cool to talk about.
I typically dont have time to post. I browse the email that is sent, if the content is stimulating enough, i click through.
Hello from Austin!
I never comment on blogs, but I’ve been reading UM since pretty close to when you guys started. Keep up the good work.
Do you feel the love now?
Been reading your blog for a good 4 months. I like it, you always inspire and give me ideas. Ordered Zipfizz the other day, for instance. If you need a place to sleep in the south Sweden/Copenhagen area, feel free to hit me up
I’ve been a reader for a long time now though never really commented that much. Guess I’ll try a little harder
