healthy(ish) hot dogs

If there’s one thing I love, it’s a couple of 7-11 Big Bites heavy on the chili and cheese after a night of general drunken carousing with my cohorts.  If there’s one thing I hate, it’s remembering what I’ve eaten the next day.  The way I prepare them, (and let’s face facts, even  if I had them plain) they are some of the worst things I could possibly put in my mouth, health wise.  Just how bad, you ask?

According to www.CalorieKing.com:

Each succulent dog I eat (typically I do two) contains:

480 Calories

19g of Saturated fat

80 mg Cholesterol

1510 mg of Sodium

This doesn’t even consider the toppings, which probably close to double the above numbers.

Still, having to march right past a 7-11 while stumbling home each night makes the temptation hard to resist.

The solution?

Turkey.  Or Chicken.  Hot dogs in the fridge at home, along with ORGANIC (to avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup.. most breads contain it!) whole wheat buns and mustard.

The calorie run down on each Turkey dog:

110 Calories

1.5g Saturated Fat

30mg Cholesterol

330 mg Sodium

For Chicken dogs, the numbers are slightly higher, but still well beneath the cardiac bermuda triangle that is my beloved 7-11.

HFCS in bread? that would explain why the bread I bought last time I was over there always tasted sweet.

    Manky.

Don’t go for the tofu dogs! I always find that their texture just isn’t the same as meat.
