Gourmet Cheese
September 1, 2006 by Greg

With hundreds of different cheeses in the world, starting out new in the cheese world can be daunting. Reluctant Gourmet offers 10 quick tips for getting in. It really comes down finding a good cheese shop, sticking to a few categories, and trying a lot of cheese.
Finding a cheese shop is quite easy in a major metropolitan area. A quick google search or flip through the yellow pages will land you a handful of options. However, if you’re in a remote area it can be a lot harder. Luckily gourmet food on about.com offers their top 9 online cheese stores.

I’ve always been curious about cheese, especially cheese+wine pairings.
The one quasi-exotic cheese I have a real taste for is Valbreso Feta, which is this strange kinda processed feta which comes from lambs milk (most feta comes from goats).
It’s great on those flaky muffins (it spreads pretty easily) from the tube in the morning with coffee.
Gawd, now I’m hungry, AND need a drink. Way to go Glenn and Gimpy.. I mean Greg.
I was introduced to a cheese last summer that I couldn’t stop eating. Port Salut.
I have never been able to find it in a store, even stores with a good cheese selection. I think I will special order some from one of those sites. I don’t know how to describe it except to say its very soft for something that comes in a block.
Damn it, I want some cheese.

Just an FYI: I do not recommend Drunken Goat cheese after a night of sangria+mojitos+dill vodka+black pepper vodka+whiskey diet coke+wine+beers+gin&diet tonic.
