frontier airlines kicks ass

I’ve long been a fan of Frontier airlines.

Their service has always been incredible (once, while snowed in @ DIA with a ticket for a United flight Frontier came to the rescue and got me on a plane early the next morning with no penalty / problems), the prices cheap (typical Denver to Vegas flights can be had for $125 round trip, Phoenix for the same, Los Angeles just slightly higher, etc.) and the overall vibe I get from the cabin crew is always upbeat and positive.

Well, as part of last week’s Las Vegas boondoggle I learned how amazing their frequent flyer program is too.

I’ve been flying Frontier regularly for the last 4 years or so. During that time, I’ve racked up a decent amount of miles in their “Early Returns” program. Right off the bat, I should mention that the program is 1:1, meaning you get one mile for every mile traveled. If that doesn’t intrigue you, chew on this: a free domestic round trip ticket is yours with just 15,000 miles in the bank.

Last week, I had a ticket to return to Denver Thursday night.

Once we’d received confirmation that Tryst @ Wynn wanted to host us however, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity for one more debauched night of fun (er, ah I mean serious Urban Monarch research!) with Greg.

Friday morning I made a call to Frontier and found out that ‘changing’ my ticket would cost me around $200. Since the original price was $150 or so, this was out of the question.

Not wanting to give up too easily, I asked to be connected to the Early Returns department.

Within 10 minutes, they had me booked on a 9 PM flight for THAT NIGHT. They also only ‘charged’ me 10,000 miles, which was agreeable to me (even though it was only a one way flight) due to the extremely short notice.

As I was waiting at the gate that evening, I began chatting up a cute young lady who flies constantly for work. She relayed a terrible tale of having 80,000+ frequent flyer miles on American Airlines, and being told she needed AT LEAST 3 months advance notice in order to book a flight. Ridiculous.

Score one Frontier airlines; you’ll have my business for a long time to come.
