for sale: express stores

May 18, 2007 by Cash

Limited brands, owners of the venerable Express for Men and Express stores (in addition to a slew of other retail brands including Victoria’s Secret and White Barn candle) have announced they are divesting the ‘underperforming’ Express.

I remember “Structure” (which eventually became Express for Men) being the first brand of clothing I really felt drawn to. When the move to “Express for Men” was announced, I was a bit wary.  At the time, a friend of mine announced he would refuse to shop at a place called “Express for Men” due to the existing women’s store “Express”.  (He soon reconsidered this positiion and is still an avid shopper there).

Nowadays, all of my friends have Express for Men items in their wardrobe.  I hope the sale of the brand won’t change the economical, modernist line we’ve grown to know and love.

I say H & M should buy express and convert them all.

I think the Express Stores are the ones that used to be called Structure. If so, Structure used to have some decent clothes, but when it became express, it’s now too gay for my tastes. Either that, or I’m getting old. Going from Express for Men to Abercrombie & Fitch the other day, I’ve decided that Express is for the stuck-up pretentious gays whereas the A&F is for the really flamboyant, overly friendly gays. (oh yeah and the high schoolers too)
*SIGH* I guess I’ll stick to the GAP for a few more years. When I turn 40, JCPenny’s clothes will probably start looking more attractive and before I know it, I’m turning into my Dad! AAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!
