Drinking from Growlers

August 27, 2008 by Greg

Lately my beverage of choice has switched to the locally available microbrews.  One idea I’ve been contemplating though is switching to growlers.  The points currently swaying me are:

  • Cheaper Price
  • Enviromentally Friendly (reusing the bottle)
  • Supportive of local business

Anyone buying growlers on a regular basis?

Any recommendations for the Denver area?  (I called Vine Street Pub, the latest Mountain Sun location in Denver, but they aren’t brewing on site till next year.)

normally places that do the growler thing will refilll them cheaper than you bring back an empty, so even more savings there.

You gotta love it when going green meets alcoholism enabling! I tend to do this for a weekend-night for some cheap, quality beer.

The only time I’ve drank from a growler was at one of my White Trash Christmas parties. It was from CB Potts, but still delicious. This is an awesome idea..

There are several party stored in upstate new york that fill growlers. They will often have specials where you get a free growler if you buy a certain beer. Most places around here (including microbreweries) have frequent filler programs. They will give you stuff for filling growlers, usually free fills, but sometimes random stuff, like shirts, hats, mugs, etc.

2 tips: Keep your growler COLD and drink it within a day (2 at most). Filling them introduces oxygen and thus skunking your beer.
