Designer Vegan Shoes

I’m a vegetarian.  I don’t eat meat.  Which, btw, in my mind, includes fish and poultry.  I do this for many reasons, but two of which are ethical and environmental concerns.  Hence, even for items I’m not consuming, I don’t buy items using animal products.  One of the biggest problems with this is shoes.  Specifically, nice looking designer shoes.

While Zappos is pretty much the king of online shoe stores, they are a warehouser with less of a designer eye.  Most of their cruelty free offerings come from makers like vans and converse.

While searching online, I noticed an advertisement for vegetarian shoes from high fashion department store Nordstrom.  It appears Nordstrom has a bit of an easter egg on their site.  When browsing their site, you will not find a link to “vegetarian shoes”, but if you search for “non leather shoes”, it returns a list of all man made shoes.

Granted they are still the typical vegan fare, but here you’ll find the Ed Hardy and John Varvatos edition converse.  Check out the full selection here.

Are most shoes not vegan? I’m going to need a new pair of running shoes, and I’m a vegan. Maybe I can get help at the Vegan and Vegetarian Forums. Thanks!

Black-spot shoes, promoted by Adbusters Magazine, contain “vegetarian leather.” I’m not exactly sure what that means, but it kind of makes me want to eat a steak.

Either way, I’ve wanted a pair for some time… perhaps now’s the time to order!

[...] The other consumption feed I regularly check is my feed for the latest vegan wares at Nordstrom.  As soon as my feed lights up, I’m excited to see what new shoes are available.  I’ve already got a pair of onitsuka tigers waiting in the queue for the next shoe order. For a background, Cash earlier posted a link about what RSS is.  To get started with google reader, check out google’s help.  For those more visually inclined, Andy Wibbel’s has a nice flash walk through to get started.  Oh, and Urban Monarch has an RSS feed too. Hey great site… you guys should check out Bourgeois Boheme if you haven’t already done so…. great shoes and belts, too; It’s in the UK so shipping is a bit much but it’s worth it and their serrvice is awesome. Also, alternative outfitters [LA] and mooshoes is solid and in the US but their style doesn’t compare to bboheme.com
