daft punk a’cappella: harder, better, faster, stronger
October 3, 2007 by Cash
Kanye West’s recent hijacking of Daft Punk’s amazing “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” (a despicable abomination in my eyes, btw) has brought a lot of attention to the track. Leave it to UM’s own (well, former) YouTube archaeologist Glenn then to unearth a priceless gem: a jaw dropping a’cappella version of the original.
The Carlton Singing Knights are an a’cappella group from Carlton University in Minnesota. In June of 2006, a video (see below) from an on campus concert featuring their version of the Daft Punk classic debuted on YouTube and has been growing in popularity since. Although the original video is fun to watch (especially the crowd’s reaction once they realize what they’re hearing); the sound quality blows.
Thankfully, they have a studio quality recording on their MySpace.
Check it out here. Don’t miss their versions of Death Cab For Cutie’s Soul Meets Body and the Gorillaz’ Feel Good Inc while you’re there.
A quick perusal of their actual web site shows several CDs available, including a range of tempting covers from The Smiths to The Postal Service.
Weird musical novelty? Yes. Strangely addictive? Hells yes.

Oooooh, sooo conflicted with what Kanye did there. Part of me is glad that we are getting some crossover. I mean half the world getting kind of exposed to Daft Punk is a good thing. Hearing some Kanye fans one day claiming Daft Punk rippied Kanye off (which is sure to happen) is quite another.
Awesome! Almost as good as two guys in robot costumes. Almost…Heh.
[...] Also I found another blog mentioned this video way early in late 2007. So not just me who thinks of it worth a shout. Check out Urban Monarch, an interesting modern-men-lifestyle collaborated blog, and read this one “Justice concert review”. Fun stuff! [...]
