cubicle exercises
May 17, 2007 by Cash
For the time being, I’m chained to the slate gray walls of a cube for 8 hours a day. I definitely take my share of ‘breaks’; walking upstairs to get water for my coffee / tea, heading to the one stairwell where my cell phone actually gets a signal, etc. Nonetheless, I spend the majority of my time sitting still with the exception of my fingers tapping away at my keyboard.
Mike D’Angelo’s ten easy desk exercises sound like a welcome addition to my day.
Some of the suggestions seem a bit more ‘attention getting’ (re: embarassing) than others (I can’t see myself doing the Upper back / shoulder exercise) but overall it’s a great list.
Readers; how do you stay fit in cube farm? Comment below.

I stay fit by regularly visiting the vending machine for fried potato products.
-take the stairs as often as i can (6th floor)
-walk from the train station into work, instead of taking the shuttle
-juggle 2.5 lb weighted juggling balls (does great things for keeping carpal tunnel at bay)
-toss a couple heavy books in a bag to carry to and from work
-drink primarily water or tea
Damn goat, you and I have a pretty similar set up. I too walk from the station to work instead of using the shuttle, always take the stairs (including for bathroom breaks) and have been known to juggle, albeit without weighted balls (typically apples or the squish ball collection at my desk, etc). Still, great ideas, and I hadn’t thought to mention them.
Greg- You are an exercise machine!
I walk up the stairs to the 6th floor at a very fast pace instead of the elevator. I go to the second floor (Safe Havens) to use the restroom. I Eat Oatmeal every morning. Even with all that hustle, sometimes, I can still hear myself getting fatter!
I just go to the gym after work…
PJ; Oatmeal is a staple of my diet too, and should be for everyone!
Palermo; good point. I really need to stop making excuses and start getting back in there myself. Two good benefits of exercising @ work though is it helps keep the blood flowing and reduce sleepiness after lunch.
