cologne and perfume reviews

The other night while perusing the fragrance event and enjoying the free champagne and desserts, I found myself at the Armani table. I was very excited to try out the new “Armani Attitude” scent. One reason being how much I enjoy ‘Armani Mania”; crisp, fresh yet still rather masculine. A difficult balance to strike. The other reason though is Attitude’s bottle, which looks like either a chic flask or an oversized zippo lighter, depending on your vice of choice I suppose. Either way, very cool.
The fragrance was very appealing to me, but due to the somewhat mixed reviews I received from random women (and the fact that there were no bonus goodies / gift packs available) I’m still on the fence about buying it. (Although it’s certainly on my wish list).
On researching the basis of the fragrance (which includes coffee- no wonder I like it) online, I was delighted to stumble upon Perfume Posse.
Their description was spot on;
Notes are: Calabria lemon, coffee, cardamom, lavender, cedar, patchouli.
Comparison notes for Double Black: mango, pepper, coffee, nutmeg, cardamom, woods, juniper). Okay, kidding, don’t call your lawyers. But there’s the resemblance you’d expect from two men’s scents with strong spiced coffee notes.
The true highlight though in scanning PP was their description of another scent we sampled @ Nordstom’s (which I didn’t like in the least); Gaultier Fleur de Male.
On the other hand, what would you think if he were wearing … Gaultier Fleur du Male? Would you ask him to show his man card? Seriously, this is begging the question. Fleur’s notes are orange blossom, petitgrain, coumarin and “fern accord,” and it makes Gaultier Le Male, which I love, look butch by comparison.
The bottle is white and shiny and gorgeous and Ken-doll-like and – fine, I’ll say it – I cannot imagine anyone other than a gay man (or a woman), not even the most metro of metrosexuals, picking that thing up.
Well put. (Sorry Sean, but it’s true!)

wait, there’s other scent’s beyond soap n water followed by deoderant? woah, my mind is blown. little fragant chunks everywhere.
So are you going to buy me the Nanette Lepore, Cash? Birthday in just two weeks from tomorrow, hint hint
Goat; I’ve got your perfect starting point: Old Spice. It kills with the ladies. Especially the 50+ crowd. Rowr!
Raquel; if I told you it wouldn’t be much of a surprise now would it?
Cash,
Look into Basenotes.com. This is the best scent site on the web.
A couple of comments for your delectation:
1. You’re the one wearing the scent. It’s you that has to live with it, not the hottie sitting next to you in the bar or cologne department. You could have bloodshot eyes and CNS sequelae and she may think you smell like gold, but what good is that if you’re feeling like shite and can’t perform?
2. If you’re not sure, wait a week, go back and try it again without getting any women’s opinion on it at all. See No. 1. If you like it, then go for it. Typically, if you like it the girls will like it. If they don’t, they won’t like you if you sprayed eau de monnaie all over your fashionable self. If there’s a question in your nose, then keep shopping. By the way, try the Annick Goutal scents. Nordstrom’s got ‘em. This is the real deal… But go to Basenotes.com
Cheers,
Hey, I was digging the gaultier.
Issey Miyake is an old favorite of mine. I love the new Marc Jacobs, and the Very Sexy for Him by Victoria Secret
Steve; thanks for all the info! I dfeinitely don’t let women determine what scent I wear (unless they buy me a bottle, feel free ladies!) but when I’m already on the fence about one, their input can definitely prove a consideration.
I like the idea of waiting a week to decide though. There’s no sense rushing into something that’s so important in making a good impression, AND feeling confident.
S; Marc Jacobs I’ve heard great things about, but have yet to smell. Perhaps that will be my mission next time I’m at the mall.
S, I love Issey Miyake. Especially the summer fragrance.
well, i think I may be receiving a bottle of attitude for christmas, I hope it is not as bad as I am hearing…
