coke zero: ultimate mixer, american hero
June 25, 2008 by Cash
Anyone using Pepsi as a mixer is out of their mind. Coke is the only way to go. That being said though, Coca Cola Classic has its shortcomings. First and foremost? High Fructose Corn Syrup (aka, the silent killer).
Diet Coke on the other hand skips this poisonous ingredient but tastes.. well, yeech.
Enter Coke Zero.
No HFCS, awesome taste, perfect for mixing, or even drinking (GASP!) straight.
Nod Glenn for turning me onto this sweet stuff a full two years before Coke finally woke up and decided to start marketing it properly.
If you’ve never tried it, pick up a 2 litre and get to the taste testing with your favorite booze right now.
UM COMMANDS YOU!

Sorry, the taste still leaves me gagging. I have NEVER met an artificial sweetener that didn’t. I buy ‘real’ Coke and Pepsi…the stuff imported from Mexico, which is sweetened with real cane sugar, not HFCS. It is easy to find here in AZ. That being said, I don’t understand why the soft drink companies don’t go back to using real cane sugar in all their products, not just in countries where it’s outlawed. Many of us are obviously willing to pay a higher price for it. Plus, if an ingredient is outlawed in so many countries, shouldn’t that send a message? I refuse to buy ANY product that lists HFCS as an ingredient, if we all spoke with our wallets, maybe things would change.
You lucky lady with the real cane sugar Coke! I never thought of that, but will look for some next time I’m in AZ.
So so true about speaking with our wallets, it’s just impossible to make people (the vast majority anyway) realize how truly evil HFCS is.
Thanks for the comment as always. UM hearts Caroline.
You can find Coke with real cane sugar in the Highlands. Just walk into authentic store…
There’s a carneceria near my house that sells the real coke, it’s fantastic.
Wow.. good info Catherine & Eric. I’ll try to get some..
Cash, have you done any research on artificial sweeteners? They are at least as bad for you as HFCS, at least according to many doctors and scientists. Some of the information out there is REALLY scary.
Word on that advice caroline. I generally just don’t drink coke so I don’t have to choose between the two. On the random occurrence that I’m getting one from a bar / friend / whoever, it doesn’t really matter to me whether it’s coke zero, diet coke, or original.
There are plenty of soda options at my nearby whole foods if i’m really feeling like a cola / whatever.
Cash, you should try Pepsi Max. It tastes good (better than Pepsi, more Coke-like) and has 120mg of caffeine in a 20oz bottle. That’s something like 75% of a red-bull with a light, mixer-ready taste and no calories.
Good tip Thomson; I’ve never even heard of the stuff!
Give the new Red Bull Cola a try.
Not sure if its available in your neck of the woods (I think they’re using Vegas as a test market) - If you don’t see an atrocious amount of billboards in your neighborhood, its probably not available.
Lemme know and I’ll send you a few.
OH man Collin, that is out of control.. no signs of it here in Denver yet!
